SPEAKER: DR EARNEST LUK, SIU-LUEN

TOPIC: THE DEVELOPMENTAL PERSPECTIVE IN ADULT PSYCHOLOGICAL TREATMENT

This talk will explore the application of a developmental perspective in providing psychological treatment to adults. The first part looks at the continuation of child and adolescent psychopathology into adult life. The second part concerns the understanding of the developmental aspects of young adulthood. Many issues related to adolescence continue to affect young adults between the ages of 18 to 25 who present with mental health problems. The third part examines the concept of development in relation to the whole of human life. Even for people who present with mental health problems in late adult life, developmental concepts are useful in shaping how we provide psychological treatment.
